Malmar stands with Nepal
On 26 August, a glacial collapse in the Himalaya sent a wall of water and debris down the Trishuli valley. More than 1,400 people have been confirmed dead and over 5,000 are still missing. Villages, bridges and livelihoods are gone. On 11 October, another flash flood hit Gorkha district, taking out homes and bridges in a region that was only just starting to recover.
Watching this unfold from the Gold Coast wasn’t an option we were comfortable with. So we did the one thing a business like ours can do quickly: fund the people already on the ground.

WHAT WE DID
Malmar has made a donation to the Keep Walking Nepal public health mission, a Kathmandu-based team delivering relief directly into affected communities. No middle layers, no admin overhead eating the money. The team we backed is the same one in these photos – packing kits, loading trucks and handing them over face to face.

Trucks loaded outside the Keep Walking Nepal office in Kathmandu.
WHERE THE MONEY GOES
The funds have gone into relief kits distributed to displaced families: food staples, clean water supplies, hygiene and first-aid items, warm clothing and bedding ahead of winter. Each kit is packed in a reusable duffel, so families keep something useful after the contents are gone. Trucks have been running from Kathmandu out to the affected valleys.

Kits handed over face to face.
WHY THIS ONE
We import from and travel through this part of the world. The people who’ve shown us hospitality for years are the same people now sleeping in tents. Supporting a local organisation that already knows the terrain, the language and the families means every dollar lands faster and goes further than it would through a large international channel.
WHAT’S NEXT
Winter is coming to the hill districts, and the recovery will take years, not weeks. We’ll share updates from the team as they come through. If you’d like to contribute directly, please get in touch.
To the team in Kathmandu – thank you for letting us be a small part of what you're doing.
