What the article covers

The feature, titled Aussie Spirit, tells the Malmar story from the very beginning. The name itself comes from Mal and Marie, who opened a gift shop in Coolangatta in 1971 — among the first in the area to trade seven days a week. By 1979 the family had moved into wholesaling, with Mal travelling to China to buy direct, and the business has been family-run ever since: Dave and Natalie joined in the late 1990s, and Jake, the next generation, came aboard eight years ago.

Natalie also talks about where the business is today — the Kelly Lane licence and this season's Australian-inspired range (the one on the cover), the trends we're watching from European and US markets, our recent investment in a new warehouse management system, and some honest, hard-won advice for retailers navigating rising costs.
